Amplifying Audiology Awareness!

October is Audiology Awareness Month!

Not only is it time for fall decorating, football games, halloween, and everything pumpkin....but this month is dedicated to sharing a wealth of information about hearing, hearing loss, the conditions that affect our ability to hear, prevention, intervention, and the experts behind it all, audiologists. It is vital to build awareness surrounding hearing healthcare and to help decrease the stigma around hearing aids for those with the impairment. The main focus is to reach the public to create a stronger understanding of how hearing loss impacts an individual, the outcomes of untreated hearing, and one's quality of life.  It also means, there is no BETTER time to care for your hearing health.

An audiologist's expertise helps determine what kind of hearing loss, what is the cause and helps you navigate the best avenue for intervention or treatment with your hearing condition. It is essential to educate the importance of audiologists and how they diagnose the early onset of auditory impairment, get the patient treatment they need to improve their quality of life, and how instrumental they are in preserving hearing in patients of all ages.

We highly rely on our ability to hear and listen in our daily lives. Yet, 37 million adults have reported having trouble hearing in the United States alone (according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders). And around 28.8 million Americans could benefit from hearing aids. So a question to ponder..... is what can audiology do for you? Or maybe a loved one with hearing loss that you would like to help. Let us spread awareness to improve hearing and quality of life. McCollum Hearing Center would be happy to introduce you to the world of hearing well to live well!
